I was contacted by Merrell’s marketing partner (BrandNation) as I was in the planing stage for a trip to the USA. This was mostly an empty-nester road trip for Mrs k and I, taking in two cities (Brooklyn/ NYC and Boston) but I had a couple of hikes planned. So the offer of a pair of the new Merrell Allout Sieve hiking sandal was very welcome.
I’ll be writing up those two hikes (one in the Catskill Mountains and one in Acadia National park) but suffice to say these multi-purpose ‘hydro trekking’ sandals are great.
I was sent the Brindle / Butterscotch variant. I wore them in a mix of forest, rock (mountain top) and also street situations and they were comfortable throughout: no blisters and no slip on my soles, even when they got wet as a I crossed a couple of streams on the forest hike. An added bonus (for the plane) was that they’re lightweight (297gm).
The materials used are a mix of nubuck leather upper and a neoprene elasticised ankle / Achilles ‘collar’, which keeps them nice and snug on your feet. I liked the comfort of the under arch support on the midsole.. e.g they feel well ‘padded’ as you cross rocky terrain.
The photos are of me with them on .. for a closer shot have a look at the product listing page mentioned on the link above.
Overall view: I recommend these, a really comfortable pair of hiking sandals which feel ‘rugged’ but are lightweight. Being essentially waterproof but fast drying is a bonus.
