This is the last kit review for 2014 and it’s actually a ‘local’ one in that I was contacted by Outdoor World who are a Huddersfield-based outdoors retailer (they serve the whole of the UK though, via the website at Outdoor World Direct).
I’ve had a couple of trips out recently where I’ve worn a Silver Ridge shirt made by Columbia, supplied by http://www.cotswoldoutdoor.com.
This is the disclaimer part: the very friendly Marta, representing Cotswold Outdoor, got in touch with me as part of her blogger outreach work and arranged for the shirt to be sent to me.
I was contacted a couple of weeks ago by someone who had been searching for guides on how to connect and engage with bloggers (as part of the marketing mix for their business). Sara had found my digital marketing blog (my day job) and by happy coincidence she realised I was also an outdoors type – so she gave me a shout.
She was looking to connect with walkers who might want to try out both some kit ( a softshell jacket) and also the online shop and fulfillment service from her company Outdoor Look. The disclaimer part here of course is that I went through the search and browse/ selection process and had a good look around the site but the softshell was then sent out FOC to me to review and keep.
A short post to mention that Aldi UK are bringing in some walking gear as part of their ‘Special Buys’ programme this Thursday 17th April.
I was contacted by the Aldi PR guys and asked if I’d like to try out the Technical Shirt.
Having been out with the shirt once I can only offer a limited review – but I have to say that for the retail price (£7.99) it’s a really comfortable shirt and wicked nicely. That seems like a good price.
I like the look of the green version (I was sent the blue) so for that price I might go and buy myself a ‘spare’ one if I can get to a store on Thursday.
I was contacted a couple of weeks or so ago by a Young Enterprise company run by 18 students out of St Paul’s School in London (‘Momentum’). They are the sole UK distributor of the Bübi bottle – a collapsible water bottle made out of medical grade silicon. More of that in a moment.
As an aside and coincidentally, the school is the same one that my future son-in-law attended (sigh, feeling very old typing that, ah well). The approach and follow-up from them was really professional and friendly (like a lot of bloggers, I get occasionally haphazard , lazy approaches – this wasn’t one of them).
